Belgium has, for the first time, frozen the assets of terrorists without judicial intervention. This is an administrative measure taken at the request of OCAM (Organisation to Coordinate Threat Analysis). L’Echo is reporting this on Friday.
The decision is aimed at twelve individuals suspected of terrorism. Amongst these are included Mohamed Abrini, as well as the Bazarouj family, suspected of hiding Salah Abdeslam when he was on the run.
They will no longer, henceforth, have access to their finances, their real estate property and other possessions. In addition, they cannot receive financial support from a third party. This provision has existed since 2006, but the royal decree in question has never been applied.
