Turnhout: the suspected paedophile was working with young people at the theatre
Sunday, 11 September 2016
A man in his twenties was recently arrested in Turnhout, on suspicion on moral grounds. He was sentenced by proxy. He was found when a civil servant realised the suspect was someone who worked with young people at the Turnhout theatre. There have been no new charges filed, according to the authorities.
Joachim.P was sentenced to 5 years in prison in June last year, on moral grounds. He was collecting naked photos of around 40 adolescents, some less than 14 years old. He was already seeing a psychiatrist for his sexual problems.
He was sentenced by proxy, because no-one knew where he was. Early this week, a civil servant realised the suspect was someone who helped out with theatre workshops for young people aged 12 to 20.
“Town authorities didn’t know about his sentencing. We are informed immediately when it’s an employee, but this person was independent”, town authorities said.
The Communal council is planning to adapt its procedure, for example verifying criminal records.
Town authorities are not aware of any other charges against the accused.
