Ruben Donné left Nieuwpoort on the 3rd of October, and sailed to Cape Town in South Africa alone. He is the first Belgian to do so. His supporters could sponsor a mile for 10 euros. The money raised went towards research into Multiple Sclerosis.
He reached his destination on the 3rd of January, after a 7,100 nautical mile journey. 6,000 of them had been sponsored. The money went to UHasselt. “They do research into an illness that is still not well understood”, Mr Donné said on Saturday
There are 10,000 people with Multiple Sclerosis in Belgium, and 2.3 million worldwide.
