No small businesses or civilians affected by cyber attacks in Belgium

Only five companies in Belgium are currently affected by the wave of global cyber attacks that started on Tuesday due to a Windows flaw for which Microsoft had already released a patch. "These are only large companies with global networks", said Miguel de Bruycker, director of the Centre for Cybersecurity (CCB).

"No small companies or civilians have been affected by this cyber attack", adds De Bruycker.

The Director confirmed that at least five companies had been affected in Belgium. "We are still investigating other companies, we need to check if they are affected by the same virus infection or another virus."

Cyber ??attacks have had an impact on the delivery of TNT packages. The TNT / Fedex sorting centre located at Bierset airport (Liège) was unable to carry out any operations during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. A total of 100,000 packages could not be issued.

The Danish ship owner Maersk, which operates in particular from the port of Zeebrugge, and the pharmaceutical company MSD, which is active in Belgium, have also been affected. The food company Mondelez was also confronted with computer problems, reported De Tijd on Tuesday.
