Most of the connected video baby phones can easily be hacked, and seldom have a clear alarm system in case there of a problem with the connection, “Purchase Test” states Monday. The consumer organization, which has led tests on several devices, invites the Belgian authorities to react.
Modern video baby phones make it possible to hear and see one’s child on a smartphone or tablet. An app. transforms these computer media into receivers connected via Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G.
“Purchase Test” advises against seven of the tested baby phones, for most of the devices do not have a clear alert system in case of a connection problem. “Parents are not clearly notified that they are no longer watching their baby,” the organization warns. “When there is an alert, it amounts to no more than a sound signal. When there is a written notification, sometimes it does not show when the smartphone is locked or when the app. is not active.” Tests have also revealed risks of hacking.
The consumer organization states that it has already raised several times this issue and asks the authorities to protect the Belgian consumers.
