Sunday, 27 May 2018
The ban on slaughtering animals without stunning them first will come into effect in Wallonia on the 1st of June.
The ban on ritual slaughtering will be delayed until the 1st of September 2019. The Walloon Parliament voted in favour of the ban in May 2017. The bill was supported by animal rights organisations but criticised by the Jewish and Muslim communities.
The importation of meat that had been slaughtered without stunning was not mentioned in the bill.
