A 20-year-old woman from Antwerp is in jail afrer police found hand grenades, weapons and cocaine in her apartment when she called the emergency services after shooting herself in the foot.

After responding to the call, the police found ignition mechanisms, eight hand grenades, four operational firearms, ammunition, plastic explosives, almost 15 kilograms of cocaine and 25,000 euros in cash. The money and the drugs are from her fugitive boyfriend, she said. Officially, he lives in Antwerp and has been on the police’s radar for a while.

The discovery is possibly an important breakthrough in the investigation into drug-related violence in Antwerp in recent months. The police are looking into different motives, but terrorism was already excluded, reports Het Nieuwsblad.

The woman was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when she shot herself. She was arrested on Sunday. This week, she will appear before the council chamber, which will decide on her further arrest.
