Rail provider SNCB is taking a series of preventive measures to ensure that rail traffic runs smoothly on Friday despite the high temperatures. However, an incident cannot be ruled out, said spokesman Dimitri Temmerman.

On Thursday, train traffic was severely disrupted by heat, but trains are running again on Friday.

SNCB has decided to remove 27 trains without air conditioning during peak hours: 15 in the morning and 12 in the evening.

In addition, no diesel trains will run from 10:00 AM onwards, in order to avoid technical incidents such as engine overheating. Six routes are affected: between Charleroi and Couvin, Hasselt and Mol, Hasselt and Hamont, Ghent and Eeklo, De Pinte and Renaix, and Melle and Grammont. Replacement buses will be set up.

Travellers are advised to consult the travel planner and listen carefully to the announcements in the stations, said Temmerman.
