The restructuring plans would affect thousands of Belgian employees. Almost 2,000 employees, or a sixth of the belgian workforce would become redundant as a consequence of the restructuring, according to Belgium’s Minister of Employment Kris Peeters.

The Minister met with Proximus CEO, Dominique Leroy, Wednesday in the presence of Charles Michel, both worried of the effects on Belgian workers.

Proximus CEO has so far only explained that the restructure is a result of incresingly difficult market conditions, necessitating cost reductions and the need to optimise efficiency.
