Thousands of people protesting against Covid-related health measures marched on Sunday in The Hague, Netherlands, Belga news agency reports.

The demonstrators, whose number was way below the 25,000 expected by protest organisers Nederland in Verzet (The Netherlands in Resistance), were scheduled to march past the Binnenhof, seat of the Dutch parliament, which had been blocked on Saturday by protesting truckers.

Some marchers sported Canadian flags in a sign of solidarity with the Freedom Convoy protest by truckers in Canada. Some demonstrators also carried Dutch flags mounted back to front.

Above the stage where addresses were scheduled to be delivered, a placard read, in capital letters, “Never again a Rutte government,” a reference to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Demonstrators’ demands included less “repression”- a reference to restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus – and "more health care".
