Lumumba death: one of the people named in the family’s complaint dies

Lieutenant-Colonel Grandelet, who was among the ten Belgians that the Lumumba family launched a civil complaint against in 2011, has died at the age of 80. La Dernière Heure announced his death on Tuesday. While the war crime investigation in Brussels is ongoing under judge Dagnely, the number of people left on the list is getting smaller. At least six of the ten suspects have died since the complaint was submitted on the 22nd of June 2011.

A the end of 2012, the Grand Jury ruled, following the Prosecutor’s Office’s findings, that the death of Patrice Lumumba after torture was a war crime, and those involved could therefore be prosecuted.

The public action against Lieutenant-Colonel Grandelet has now been stopped.
