Jejoen Bontinck, the young Belgian who went to fight in Syria, had his preventive detention prolonged by Antwerp Council Chamber on Friday. On Sunday morning, he was arrested at Zaventem Airport, where he was about to board a flight to Turkey with his girlfriend. However, his conditions of release specified that he should have no more contact with her.
This ban was served on him in November, after he had spent one night in custody for an alleged domestic violence offence. He apparently hit his girlfriend during an argument – something that she now flatly denies. The young couple had tried to have this “no contact” ban lifted on several occasions in the past.
