According to the federal prosecutor, the council chamber confirmed the warrant issued against Nacer Bendrer on Friday. He is the alleged accomplice of Mehdi Nemmouche in the terrorist attack at the Jewish Museum in Brussels which left 4 people dead on May 24, 2014. The Belgian judicial authorities suspect NB of helping MN. 26-year-old Nacer Bendrer was taken in for questioning in Ceyreste (approximately 30 km east of Marseilles) on December 9, 2014. French police searching his home found 2 automatic guns, one rifle, a magazine, ammunition, and an automatic rifle (kalachnikov).
From June 1st, 2008 to December 2nd, 2010, Nacer Bendrer was in the same jail as Mehdi Nemmouche in Salons-de-Provence. A group of prisoners in this jail allegedly converted to an extreme form of religious practice. Mehdi Nemmouche and his alleged accomplice are suspected of being the most active members of this group.
According to investigators, Mehdi Nemmouche and Nacer Bendrer stayed in touch after they were released, including in the weeks preceding the attack. Mehdi Nemmouche allegedly phoned his accomplice from Brussels on April 9th, 2014. Following that conversation, Nacer Bendrer allegedly went to Brussels and stayed there from April 10th to April 12th. 2 weeks later, Mehdi Nemmouche allegedly went to Marseilles from April 24th to April 29th. His mobile phone was spotted by a transmission mast near Nacer Bendrer's home.
Nacer Bendrer was handed over to Belgian authorities on Monday and charged the next day. The warrant for his arrest was confirmed on Friday. According to his attorney, Nacer Bendrer denies taking part in the Jewish Museum attack in Brussels.
