The man who barricaded himself in his Ixelles apartment surrenders to police

A 37 year old man who barricaded himself in his apartment in rue de la Lesbroussart in Ixelles has surrendered to the special units of the federal police. He may have been armed, which is why police were at the scene. It is not known why he did it, the Brussels Prosecutor’s office said on Thursday. They were also present at the scene. A man called police at around 4.30 am, saying his neighbour was being threatening, and might be armed. Local police and special services went to the scene, and set up a security perimeter.

The man barricaded himself in his apartment, along with his wife and children. There is no evidence to suggest they were threatened or in danger. The federal police’s special units started negotiating with the individual, who eventually handed himself in. It is not known whether he was armed.
