New phase for regularising undeclared weapons begins on 1 March

A new phase for regularising undeclared firearms begins on Thursday, 1st of March and ends on the 31st of December. This is a “last chance to comply with the law”, according to Justice Minister Koen Geens. The regularisation period was to have started on the 1st of January but was postponed.

Over the next 10 months, individuals who possess weapons without the necessary authorization will be able to declare them without running the risk of being prosecuted. They will be able to apply for authorizations, hand over their weapons to the police, sell them or neutralize them. However, the regularisation does not apply to banned weapons.

Offenders risk prison terms ranging from one month to five years and/or fines of 100 to 25,000 euros.
