Human traffickers nabbed in Zeebrugge

The Belgian police have intercepted three adults and a seven-year-old girl who attempted to travel to England with false Romanian papers, the Office of the Public Prosecutor (OPP) said on Tuesday. The group tried to board a Pride of Bruges ferry on Saturday, pretending to be Romanian holidaymakers. When their papers were checked by the border police, one of the adults turned out to be an Albanian with a false passport. The vehicle in which they were travelling, registered in Moldavia, also contained other counterfeited documents.

The two other adults, an Italian couple in their 30s, have been arrested for human trafficking. The Albanian, whose trip to England had been planned by the couple, has also been held.

The seven-year-old girl has since been returned to her family in Italy, while the vehicle has been seized.
