The three additional teens thought to have been part of a group of seven who gang raped a 15-year-old girl and broadcast it on social media were never considered suspects, local authorities confirmed.
All perpetrators accused of collectively raping an acquaintance in the town of Chaudfontaine, near Liege, are already in detention.
Reports emerged this week that authorities were looking for three more teens in connection to the events, which took place in late March.
Seven minors, aged 13 to 18, were detained after having confessed to the rape, parts of which they filmed and broadcast on the social media platform Snapchat.
Five of the seven teens detained are minors and will be put in a youth detention centre for a minimum of three months.
The other two, only recently turned 18, are facing a prison sentence of between 10 and 15 years.

Update: A spokesperson from Liege’s public prosecutor office has since confirmed to The Brussels Times in an email statement that not only were the teens dismissed, they were never considered suspects in the first place.
