Donald Tusk warns against breach of agreement on Brexit

European Council President Donald Tusk warned against a lack of agreement on the Brexit on Friday, while the British Conservatives of Theresa May lost their absolute majority in parliament in early parliamentary elections. "We do not know when the discussions on Brexit will begin, but we know when they have to end. Do your best to avoid a 'no deal' (absence of agreement, editor's note) that would be the result of an absence of negotiations", Tusk said on Twitter.

The EU's chief negotiator on the Brexit, Michel Barnier, said that the EU would wait for the UK to be "ready" before starting negotiations with the United Kingdom.

Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May was in a hurry to resign on Friday, after the election results plunged the country into uncertainty. It was a personal failure for her, who had convened these early parliamentary elections by expecting a strengthened majority to negotiate the exit of the European Union.

However, she ultimately did not resign and will visit Queen Elizabeth II on Friday at midday to seek permission to form a minority government.
