Brussels Airlines could become part of Eurowings

The German airline Lufthansa, which owns Brussels Airlines, is planning to make it part of Eurowings, the new low cost company being launched in the Autumn. Lufthansa currently has 45% of Brussels Airlines’ capital. It has until 2017 to claim 100%, but has not yet done so. Brussels Airlines could become part of Eurowings or become Brusselswings, the Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr revealed when he was in Frankfurt on Monday. He thinks the European airline market should be consolidated. Eurowings is presented as an “open platform” which might even house other companies.

The spokesman for Brussels Airlines has said they were not aware of Lufthansa’s plans. Carsten Sophr also said the Italian airline Air Dolomiti could also become part of Eurowings.
