The Social inspection team is looking into budget Airline Ryanair’s operation at Zaventem (Brussels Airport). The Christian Union is hoping this will force the Irish company to review the “fragile status” of its employees, De Tijd reported on Saturday.
The paper says the Halle-Vilvoorde Social inspection team has been looking into Ryanair’s operation in Zaventem for several months. The inquiry was started because of a complaint the Christian Union submitted at the end of 2017. It was worried about the status of Belgian employees that have an Irish contract and are subject to Irish tax laws.
Ryanair employees based in Zaventem were asked about their working hours as part of the Social inspection team’s inquiry. However, it was not a simple process. A lot of cabin staff, for example, move every two years and are from Eastern or Southern Europe.
Paul Buekenhout, from the Central LBC (CNE) Union, hopes the inspection team will report back in May or June.
