Notaries launch Biddit.be site for online real estate sales

Belgium’s notaries have launched Biddit.be, an online site for real-estate sales where purchasers can now bid “easily, in all security and transparently” for a property. Thanks to Biddit.be, potential buyers are able to know the price range of a building, and can place bids with their computers using their electronic identification cards or the ‘itsme’ application. Bids can be placed manually or automatically up to a predetermined maximum amount.

"With online sales, you can become the owner of a house in a few weeks; it’s much faster than a traditional sale, where there is a gap of 3 to 4 months between sales agreement and deed of sale,” Renaud Grégoire, spokesman of the Federation of Notaries (Fednot) explained. “With an online sale, the notary will have completed all the procedures beforehand so that, as a purchaser and as a seller, you know immediately where you stand.”

Online sales on Biddit begin immediately with about 50 properties throughout the country. Bidding can begin from early June and property listings will be increased in the coming months.
