The ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge have entered into negotiations concerning an eventual merger, they indicated on Friday in a joint press release.
Discussions on collaboration have just begun, with the Antwerp and Zeebrugge port authorities now both giving the green light to begin negotiations "with a view to the (phased) structuring of an eventual fusion between the two ports," they stated.
The whole process should take two years.
