While most mobile giants used the pre-Mobile World Congress press conferences to unveil their latest flagship smartphones, Huawei instead focused on wearables this year. After introducing the Huawei Watch, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group, focused on the design of the device, emphasizing that other smart watches are “more like gadgets, rather than classical watches”.
Huawei’s new smart watch has a round sapphire glass screen which, according to the executive has 286 pixels-per-inch and which outstrips rivals such as LG’s G Watch R (247 pixels per inch) or Motorola’s Moto 360 (205 ppi).
It also includes a heart-rate monitor and 6-axis motion sensor. The device, which was very well received by the audience, will be available in gold, silver and black. However, fans will unfortunately have to wait until “the middle of this year” to get their hands on this beauty. No pricing indication has been given as of yet.
During the event, Richard Yu also introduce an update to the Talkband B1, the combined wristband/Bluetooth headset introduced at MWC 2014. The Talkband B2 offers a much more business like and professional design than its predecessor. It will be available in black, white (for the price of €169) and gold (for €199), and is expected to hit the market by end of April 2015.
Finally, Mr. Yu also introduced the Talkband N1 headset. In addition to offering high quality voice call features, it has 4GB of internal storage which can hold up to 1,000 songs. The unique design also means the earbuds can be transformed into a practical and fashionable necklace accessory. It will cost €119 and will be available in Europe from May 2015.
