Olivier Deschacht told Anderlecht management he was the object of a legal investigation himself, the Brussels club’s website read on Saturday. The club says “it is waiting for the results of the legal investigation”.
The Saturday editions of La Dernière Heure, Het Laatste Nieuws and De Morgen said the Anderlecht defender is suspected of betting on matches he played in several times. This was during the 2014-2015 season. He is thought to have made nearly 20,000 euros betting on matches involving Anderlecht and other teams.
“Last week, Olivier Deschacht himself told the RSC Anderlecht management he was the object of a legal investigation. The player denied the charges against him during this meeting. The club is taking his version of events into account, and is waiting for the results of the legal investigation. The management will make no comment while this investigation is still ongoing”, the RSC Anderlecht website says. The spokesman for the Belgian Football Union, Pierre Comez, said the Federation had not yet opened an official inquiry on Saturday morning.
