In front of an energetic crowd at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, Bart Swings, finished fifth at the World Allround Championships. Last year he also finished fifth in the same race. "Not super, but not bad," says Swings. "I gave it everything I had. I felt that the responsibilities, after my olympic medal, made a lot of demands on me.”

The Olympic Stadium, which normally serves as a track and field venue, was covered with a layer of ice, for this occasion. The mass start in which Swings won silver cannot be compared to a World Cup Allround.

The World Championship Allround is, in contrast to the Olympic Games, where medals are awarded per distance and discipline, the sum of four different distances: 500m, 5.000m, 1.500m and 10.000m.
