Dolphin born at Boudewijn Seapark

A baby dolphin was born on July 25th at Boudewijn Seapark in Bruges, announced the dolphinarium on Wednesday. The small cetacean, a female, has been named Moana, the Hawaiian version of its big brother's name, Ocean. Both mother, Roxane, and baby are bein kept out of the public eye for the moment, to ensure their welfare.

There were no complications during the birth and Moana was born fighting fit. However, the first few weeks of a baby dolphin's life are crucial since its immune system iis not completely developed.

A baby dolphin died shortly after it was born at Boudewijn Seapark last year. In response, the Bite Back animal rights advocacy group had calld for the water park's dolphin breeding program to be immediately halted.
