US President Donald Trump has dismissed his Attorney General Pam Bondi, confirming the move on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Bondi’s deputy and Trump’s former personal lawyer, Todd Blanche, will temporarily take over the role.
Trump praised Bondi as a “great American patriot” and a “loyal friend,” expressing gratitude for her efforts to reduce the murder rate “to its lowest level since 1900.”
He said Bondi would transition to a “much-needed and important new role in the private sector,” but gave no details of her new job.
In the interim, Blanche will serve as acting Attorney General, while reports suggest that Trump is considering appointing Lee Zeldin, the current head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as Bondi’s permanent replacement.
Bondi, 60, was reportedly let go due to dissatisfaction with her management of the Justice Department and her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Additionally, her failure to prosecute Trump’s adversaries, such as former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, has allegedly drawn criticism.
This marks the second high-profile departure from Trump’s administration since he returned to the White House in early 2025.
Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was dismissed earlier this year.
