American rapper Kanye West, mired in a series of controversies, has suggested that he will be a candidate in the 2024 presidential election and claimed to have offered Donald Trump to be his running mate.

The artist, who calls himself Ye, posted a series of videos on his Twitter account on Thursday night, accompanied by the logo “Ye 24”. In one of them, the 45-year-old rapper talks about a conversation he had with former President Donald Trump, who himself has announced his candidacy for the 2024 US election.

“I asked him to be my vice president,” Ye says, assuring that Donald Trump “started yelling at him.” The music and fashion maverick had already launched an improbable bid for the 2020 US election, garnering just 70,000 votes.

The 45th president of the United States confirmed on Friday that he had dined with the rap star in his Florida residence, but said the meal was “quick” and “uneventful.”

Also at the dinner table was Holocaust-denier and white supremacist Nick Fuentes (24). Donald Trump confirmed on social media that Fuentes was present as a guest of Ye. The latter “showed up unexpectedly with three of his friends, whom I did not know,” the Republican ex-president said on Truth Social.

For his part, Ye said on social media networks, that Donald Trump had been “really impressed” by Fuentes, who only recently suggested during a live Internet programme that the military should be sent into African-American neighbourhoods “because they are never going to vote for us”.

It is not clear what role Nick Fuentes would play in the African-American rapper’s election campaign.

At the centre of a series of controversies, Ye has been heavily criticised in recent weeks for wearing a T-shirt that hijacks the anti-racist slogan “Black Lives Matter” and for posting comments on Instagram and Twitter that have been denounced as anti-Semitic.

His former partner Adidas also announced on Thursday that it was opening an investigation after employees of the group accused the rapper of sexually inappropriate behaviour and bullying.
