The far-right Flemish party Vlaams Belang has launched its election campaign under the slogan 'Flanders is ours again,' according to party leader Tom Van Grieken, Belga News Agency reports.
Van Grieken unveiled the campaign slogan during a meeting in Zellik, a municipality in Flemish Brabant. The word 'ours' will be a central theme throughout this campaign, especially now the party is leading in the polls in northern Belgium.
"The nationalist 'ours' stands between the chilly liberal 'mine' and the all-fading and replacing 'everyone' of the left. 'Ours' encompasses everyone's individual identity, but at the same time expresses our connectedness," Vlaams Belang posted on social media on Sunday.
The party leader cautioned that their lead in the polls should not be seen as a distinct advantage. He stressed that every detail will be critically examined by their opponents.
Van Grieken also urged the party's supporters not to become overly confident. "We mustn't count our chickens before they hatch," he stated.
