Back in 2022, just a stone’s throw away from Antwerp’s Old Town, a historic gem was meticulously restored to its former glory when Sapphire House Antwerp, a 5 star boutique hotel and part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott, was born.
Three years have passed since the opening and recently we joined the big celebrations for their third anniversary with a sunny soirée in their fantastic courtyard.
We were also invited back for a weekend stay to check out what's new at the hotel.
Rich history
Sapphire House's story dates back to the 16th century, when it was the residence of influential merchants. The building reflects Antwerp’s Golden Age - a time of trade, art and opulence. Over the centuries, the building has witnessed the city's evolution, from a thriving trading hub to a cultural and artistic centre.
After a meticulous restoration process, Sapphire House has regained its former splendour, blending history with modern luxury.
Central location
A major factor in any hotel’s success is location and Sapphire House has it all, as it’s right in the heart of the beautiful city of Antwerp.
Situated in the Lange Nieuwstraat, it’s perfectly positioned for tourists to explore Antwerp’s culture, shopping streets and historical sites, such as the Cathedral of Our Lady.
Courtyard
One of the most enchanting aspects of Sapphire House is its serene courtyard, a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. During summer it comes alive, opening its doors for lunches, dinners, and private events. The perfect setting for an al fresco meal or a sophisticated cocktail party.
After a day exploring the sights we enjoyed a Spritz in the sunshine, while enjoying the courtyard's serene ambiance.
Sapphire Bistro
The Restaurant & Bar is located within the house, a refined culinary setting where the elegance of Sapphire House extends from morning until evening. Since our last stay, a new menu has been created, one that offers room for prime cuts, fresh daily catch, and refined vegetables, celebrating the richness of the region. The chefs are inspired by the season's diversity, whether it's found in the garden, the meadow, or the sea.
With a focus on traditional flavours and modern twists, each dish is thoughtfully composed and inspired by the season. From light lunch to three course dinners, the menu now is more extensive and caters to a variety of tastes.
Luxurious rooms
Influenced by the Antwerp’s Golden Age grandeur, the 139 luxury rooms and suites seamlessly blend authentic details, renowned artwork and bespoke design into an unforgettable experience of great comfort and luxury.
Each room and suite reflects a gemstone, from the vibrant Emerald Rooms to the elegant Ruby Superiors, and the high-end interiors of the Sapphire Deluxe rooms, which we had the pleasure to experience. Our room was spacious, with stylish fittings designed to provide the ultimate comfort and relaxation experience.
The crown jewel of the room collection are the Diamond Suites, offering privacy and comfort.
Meeting spaces
We also toured the meeting and event spaces and we soon realised that Sapphire House would make an ideal venue for meetings and intimate weddings. They offer spaces that are more than just rooms: settings with a story, designed for encounters that leave a lasting impression.
