The World Athletics Council has decided to reinstate the Russian Athletics Federation, which had been suspended for more than seven years following a massive doping scandal, Council President Sebastian Coe announced on Thursday.
However, this does not affect the ability of Russian athletes to take part in international competitions.
“Athletes, officials and staff from Russia and Belarus remain suspended from competition for the foreseeable future due to events in Ukraine,” Coe said at a press conference, one year and a half before the Paris Olympics.
