Belgian sports coach Marieke Blomme plans to swim across Lake Geneva on Sunday in under 22 hours.
She will be supported by Si belle mobilité, a charity focused on making winter sports accessible to disabled individuals.
Blomme was the first woman to swim the length of the Belgian coast, covering the 67-kilometre distance over four hours faster than ultra-athlete Matthieu Bonne, setting a record time of 18 hours and 45 minutes.
Her next goal is to beat the current across Lake Geneva record, which stands at 22 hours and 42 minutes.
The swimmer aims to complete the over 70 kilometres in under 22 hours. She will begin her journey at 4:00 PM on Sunday and can be followed live online.
In undertaking this latest record attempt, Blomme wishes to support ASBL Si belle mobilité, a charity working to make winter sports more accessible to those living with disabilities.
The ultimate goal is to establish a sports and physiotherapy area in a hotel acquired by the association.
“Sponsors, equipment providers or funders are welcome to contribute to the development of this space,” the athlete said.
