Union Saint-Gilloise beat Cercle Bruges 2-1 on Sunday night on the 11th day of the top tier of Belgian football, the Jupiler Pro League, and are now joint third with Club Brugge at the top end of the table.

Sunday's game can be seen as an important league victory for Union after a slower start to the domestic season. Dante Vanzeir and Simon Adingra gave Union a two-goal advantage before Yann Gboho closed the gap in 75th minute. With the win, Les Unionistes have managed to go level with Club Brugge in the league table in joint third place. Cercle Brugge remain second last.

In the 3rd minute, Adingra made a run on the left wing and crossed to Vanzeir, who headed the ball into the goal for 1-0.

Union had a few more chances in the first half, with Victor Boniface narrowly missing the frame in the 30th minute.

The half ended with a chance for Bruges from a corner, when Jean Marcelin volleyed towards goal but Union captain Teuma cleared the ball off the line (39th) with his head.

Returning for the second half, Anthony Moris saved the Union by saving, with a good reflex stop, a shot from the inside the box by Thibo Somers (53rd).

In the 55th minute, Adingra, on the left, gave the ball back to Teuma, who waited and then passed the ball to Adingra, with the Ivorian concluding this movement with a curled shot (2-0).

Cercle were back in the game with a quarter of an hour from the end when Yann Gboho got on the end of a pass from Leonardo Lopes and made it 2-1.

Moris then made an excellent save from Ayase Ueda, who had the chance to equalise at the end (82nd). The game ended with a double save from Majecki from Union's Vanzeir and Cameron Puertas (90th + 2).

With this 3rd consecutive success, Union (22 points) is now joint third with Club Brugge behind leaders Antwerp (30 points), and second-place Genk (28 points). Cercle (9 points) is in penultimate place at 17th. Union are currently on the same amount of points as they were last season.
