R. Charleroi S.C. supporters are facing strict punishment for an incident that occurred during a match with Standard de Liège on 14 April, RTL Info reports. Charleroi fans allegedly threw dead rats painted in Standard’s colours towards opposing fans. Standard has launched a complaint with the Belgian Pro League.

The referee’s report was submitted on Monday to the league and the Royal Belgian Football Union. The Pro League explains that since the incident did not disturb the match, it was not obligated to take immediate action.

While the union has yet to read the referee’s report, it has already reacted to the incident, describing it as “deplorable.” The public prosecutor’s office of the union will be able to make proposals for possible penalties for Charleroi, potentially by the end of the day. The club's fans may be banned from travelling to future matches.
