Europe is set to have over one million public charging points for electric vehicles this summer, according to EV Belgium, using data from Eco-Movement and the latest figures from the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO).

Nearly 100,000 of these are ultra-fast chargers capable of recharging vehicles in under 20 minutes, reports the Belgian electric mobility federation.

This growth in charging infrastructure aligns with the European AFIR (Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation), which mandates standards for transparent pricing, card payment options, and interoperability.

In Belgium, the number of public charging points is rapidly increasing, approaching a total of 100,000 chargers, according to industry data. Of these, about 90,000 are standard-speed chargers, with approximately 7,000 being fast chargers. Notably, the number of fast chargers in Wallonia has doubled over the past year.

“Belgium continues to be among the European leaders in infrastructure,” EV Belgium highlights. The federation projects that Belgium will have up to two million electric vehicles by 2030.
