A 17-year-old volunteer firefighter received a three-month suspended sentence on Tuesday for causing a fire in Aveyron, southern France in 2023.

Arrested last August, he was charged with igniting a total of four fires over two days in April and July 2023.

These were near an uninhabited shack or in fields in the southern part of the department, one of which resulted in a four-hectare fire.

The young firefighter was identified thanks to a witness testimony. He had even reported one of the fires, according to the public prosecutor.

His sentence comes with mandatory supervision by the youth protection services and a prohibition on holding a registered weapon, as specified by the Rodez Prosecution Office.
