A 49-year-old Belgian man, who had been living in Thailand for several years, was shot dead by a fellow Belgian in Seka Tai, some 700 km northeast of Bangkok.

The suspect (42), also a long-term Thai resident, was arrested on Sunday and has confessed to the crime. It is suggested that a financial disagreement was the cause of the incident, according to Sudpresse and L'Avenir as reported by local media.

The victim, originally from Havelange (Namur province), and the alleged perpetrator knew each other prior to their departure from Belgium, say the newspapers.

The suspect, originally from Hotton (Luxembourg province), attempted to conceal the crime by burning the body. He is also believed to have disposed of the victim's motorcycle in a pond 60 km away.
