Sao Tome and Principe: four dead in coup attempt

Four people died in Sao Tome and Principe in a failed coup attempt on Thursday night, the government news agency said on Sunday, quoting an army report.

On Friday, the army’s chief of staff, Colonel Idalécio Pachire, announced that the army had foiled a coup attempt. “Four human lives were lost”, three of them because of their “wounds” and after “exchanges of fire in a military site".

The small Portuguese-speaking archipelago is considered a model of parliamentary democracy in Africa.
