Press freedom globally is under attack. 67 journalists across the world have been killed while doing their jobs, a steep increase from the 47 deaths in 202, according to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
"The increase in the murders of journalists and other media workers is a major cause for concern and another wake-up call for governments around the world to take action in defense of journalism, one of the most important pillars of democracy," IFJ Secretary General Anthony Bellanger said in a statement.
Violence against reporters hit its peak in war-torn Ukraine, where 12 media workers were killed, the highest amount among the 21 most dangerous countries for journalists.
