A baby died after being bitten by a dog last Thursday in Emmeloord, in the north of the Netherlands, an autopsy concluded on Monday. No arrests have been ordered in connection with the death.

Police were called on Thursday morning to the Antonius Hospital in Emmeloord where the baby had been admitted. The police did not say whether the victim was still alive when they arrived. It is also not known who dropped the child off at the hospital.

On Thursday, the baby's parents' home was searched, during which the dog was seized. The animal is still alive, according to police.

As the cause of death was initially unclear, the police and the Public Prosecutor's Office requested an autopsy, which was carried out over the weekend. This revealed that the baby had died from a bite wound.
