MI5 warns of terrorist attacks linked to Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Britain’s domestic intelligence service, MI5, warned on Wednesday of a high terrorist risk in the UK due to the war between Israel and Hamas.

“There clearly is the possibility that profound events in the Middle East will either generate more volume of UK threat, and/or change its shape in terms of what is being targeted, in terms of how people are taking inspiration,” MI5 Director General Ken McCallum said.

He was speaking at a meeting of the “Five Eyes,” an alliance of the intelligence services of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

McCallum also stated that his service’s main focus was on Iran. Over the past 18 months, the UK’s activities have concentrated mainly on “internal enemies of the regime” present on British territory. These included, for example, Iranian dissidents and Farsi-language media organisations.
