Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the United States on Monday will take place indoors because of the freezing temperatures, he announced on his social network Truth Social on Friday.
The ceremony will be held in the Capitol Rotunda, instead of on the steps of Congress as usual.
"An arctic wind is sweeping the country. As a result, I have decided that the inaugural address will be delivered in the Capitol Rotunda, as it was for Ronald Reagan in 1985," said Trump.
According to the forecasts, it will be -5°C during the inauguration ceremony, which is expected to draw more than 200,000 spectators.
After the inauguration, Trump will join his supporters in a large sports stadium in the American capital, the "Capital One Arena," he added. The parade will also be held there.
The situation is reminiscent of the enduring myth surrounding the inauguration of the 9th President of the United States, William Henry Harrison. In 1841, the President delivered his speech for almost two hours in freezing rain. He died a month later, according to legend, of pneumonia.
