The F-pier of Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands was evacuated on Saturday evening because a gas leak occurred nearby. Around 22:30, the leak was fixed and the pier was reopened.
The gas has been shut off and no more gas is being released, a spokesperson for the safety region told the Dutch press agency ANP. For most air traffic, there was no disruption.
The pier and a number of aircraft had to be evacuated because a gas leak occurred in the area at around 19:00. This was caused by an accident involving a vehicle and possibly a pipe being damaged. It is unclear how exactly this happened, the spokesperson said.
Five aircraft were at the F-pier, one of Schiphol's eight piers. Passengers from Turkish Airlines, Aeroméxico, EVA Air and KLM were evacuated. A fifth aircraft had no passengers on board. According to a passenger on X, part of the airport was also evacuated and an alarm went off everywhere.
The KLM plane involved a flight to Singapore, which suffered an indefinite delay, according to a spokesperson for the airline.
