The 40-year-old man who killed two people after he drove into a group of people in Mannheim, Germany, on Monday, will be questioned on Tuesday.
The suspect, from Ludwigshafen, is accused of double murder and several attempted murders.
He allegedly shot himself in the mouth with a blank gun during his arrest. He was taken to hospital with injuries but has since been discharged and is being held by the authorities.
Police hope the questioning will provide more clarity about the motive. On Monday, the suspect sped through a pedestrian zone in Mannheim city centre and hit several pedestrians near Paradeplatz.
Investigators believe he intentionally targeted his victims. The motive remains unclear, but there are no indications that the act was extremist or religiously motivated.
Authorities suggest the motive may be linked to the suspect’s personality, possibly indicating a mental disorder.
The attack claimed the lives of an 83-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man. Eleven people were injured, with some in critical condition.
