India has closed its airspace to all aircraft registered in Pakistan and operated by Pakistani companies, including military flights, until 23 May, amid escalating tensions between the neighbouring countries, according to NDTV.
The move comes in response to Pakistan’s ban on Indian planes flying over its territory.
Tensions between the two neighbours have escalated sharply since 26 people were killed by armed men on 22 April in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir. India blames Pakistan for the attack, a claim Pakistan denies.
Pakistan has said it anticipates a military assault from India, alleging that its larger neighbour will use the Pahalgam incident as a pretext. Pakistan warned that any aggression would meet with a resolute response.
The two nations have fought three wars since their partition in 1947. Additionally, rebels have sought since 1989 to gain independence for Indian-administered Kashmir or merge it with Pakistan.
Both India and Pakistan possess nuclear weapons.
