Dino Scala, known as the “Sambre Rapist,” has been charged with 13 additional counts of rape, sexual assault, attempted rape and assault, according to several French media outlets.

Scala appeared before the investigating judge in connection with a new judicial investigation initiated in March 2023 by the Valenciennes prosecutor in northern France. This inquiry pertains to a series of offences committed against 14 victims between 1988 and 2009.

In April 2024, the judiciary also began examining two fresh reports from women alleging they were assaulted in 1987.

Scala (64) was sentenced in July 2022 by a court in the Nord region to 20 years in prison for a series of 54 rapes, sexual assaults, and attempted offences. He had been prosecuted for a total of 56 incidents, admitting to 40 and denying 16.

These crimes were perpetrated between 1988 and 2018 near his home, around the Sambre River in northern France, and also in Belgium.
