The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, is taking temporary leave from his duties, several sources told Reuters on Friday. He is currently under investigation for allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour.
An official announcement from the ICC is expected later today.
Khan has been facing allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour since October. These allegations triggered a thorough internal investigation. Several NGOs and members of the Court have asked the Prosecutor to step aside while the investigation is ongoing, which he has refused to do.
According to Reuters sources, Khan met with UN investigators last week in what appears to have been the final hearing of the investigation that began in December.
It is not yet known who will take over as chief prosecutor.
