Israel will only cease its military operation against Iran after damaging the nuclear facility in Fordow, Israeli national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi said on Tuesday in an interview with Channel 12.
The Fordow facility is located 90 metres underground and contains thousands of centrifuges for uranium enrichment. Israel does not possess conventional weapons capable of reaching the deep underground complex.
A U.S. airstrike using heavy bombs could potentially achieve the desired result, Hanegbi stated. He added that he did not know whether the United States would join Israel. The two countries were in constant discussions, Hangebi said, but Tel Aviv was not trying to persuade the Americans.
He described the operation as “blue and white,” a reference to the Israeli flag, indicating that the plan was devised entirely by Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly maintains an “intimate dialogue” with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Hanegbi noted that Israel was aware from the outset that US support was not guaranteed.
