Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have begun examining the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southwestern Iran, marking the first such visit since Tehran suspended cooperation with the UN body in July.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed the inpection during a press briefing in Washington. “They are currently there,” Grossi stated. “Today, they are inspecting Bushehr.”

Iran halted its collaboration with the IAEA earlier this year following a parliamentary vote. The decision came after Israel launched attacks on its nuclear facilities in June. Tehran claimed the attacks were later supported by the United States.

At the time, IAEA inspectors stationed in Iran were ordered to leave the country. They returned to the organisation’s headquarters in Vienna, leaving the inspections on hold.

This latest inspection marks a cautious step in re-establishing oversight of Iran’s nuclear activities, although broader issues between Tehran and the international community remain unresolved.
