The lifeless body of a 65-year-old man, who had been missing since Thursday evening, was found on Sunday morning in a canal in Ostend, according to the Bruges section of the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office.
The man was last seen on Thursday at around 23:00 in a restaurant in Ostend. A missing person’s notice was issued on Saturday.
Shortly before 10:00 on Sunday, a body was found in a canal in Stene, a section of Ostend. It was confirmed to be the missing man. The public prosecutor’s office sent a forensic doctor and a scientific laboratory to the scene to investigate the circumstances of the death.
“Preliminary findings show no signs of violence from a third party,” the prosecutor’s office stated. It is believed that an accident may have caused the man’s death.
